March 31st

On March 31st, 1987 myself and a couple of buddies made the trip to Calgary to see Alice Cooper in concert at the Olympic Saddledome. This was my first time seeing Alice in concert and would most certainly not be my last time. Alice was on the road touring for his album Constrictor. Opening the show was the Quebec heavy metal band Sword.

March 30th

It was on March 30th, 1995 that I spent 100 dollars for a concert ticket for the first time. I had got my first credit card that day and thought it would be a good way to break it in and see if I could get a decent seat for the Eagles concert at Edmonton Coliseum. Well, lo and behold I went to the box office at the Coliseum the night of the show and scored myself a row 2 ticket. The show was pretty good but it was Joe Walsh who stole the show by a long shot.

March 27th

It  was on March 27th, 1991 that my brother Citrus and a handful of friends went to the Gwar concert at The Bronx here in Edmonton. We had the great idea of all dropping acid before the show. Like the show wasn't going to be weird enough. What a great time we had at this show.

One of only two concerts I have been to on my birthday. This show on March 25th, 1991 of INXS and openers The Soup Dragons at Northlands Coliseum being one of them. INXS were on the road promoting their album X. The Soup Dragons were touring for their underrated album Lovegod.

March 20th

This post is from the time I saw Rush on their Presto Tour with opening act Mr. Big in Edmonton at Northlands Coliseum on March 20th, 1990. What a great double bill this was, especially if you are a fan of bass players.

March 19th

On March 19th, 1990 I saw Aerosmith on their PUMP tour with Skid Row opening at Northlands Coliseum in Edmonton. Skid Row would have been touring for their debut album which had been out for more then a year by that time. A great double bill.

March 17th

It was on March 17th, 2012 that I went to this free afternoon show featuring local Edmonton musicians Ben Sir (RIP) of Worst Days Down, James Renton of Fire Next Time, Ian McIntosh of Owls By Nature and a few others. This show was at the Pawn Shop on Whyte Avenue. This was my first time seeing all these artists perform. It was at this show that I started a friendship with Ben Sir that lasted until last year, as he passed away in April of 2023. Ben you are missed, thanks for the awesome music!

Trans-Canada Highwaymen Live in Edmonton March 8th 2024

Last Friday night my buddy Nazz and I went to the Trans-Canada Highwaymen concert at the Yellowhead Casino, which was a weird ass room for a show. When I first heard of this super-group of Canadian musicians featuring Moe Berg of The Pursuit Of Happiness, Chris Murphy of Sloan, Craig Northey of Odds and Steven Page ex of the Barenaked Ladies I thought this would be an interesting collaboration. Then word came out that they were recording a covers album of Canadian hits from the 60's & 70's. And if you watch the video for their infomercial you will get a sense of what they doing. It's a very 70's feel K-Tel Records compilation thing going on. A group of guys having a lot of fun, and that's exactly what the concert was like too.

Checkout the infomercial for the album Explosive Hits Vol.1. It is well worth watching and gives you an idea of all the songs covered on the album.

This was my first time being at the Yellowhead Casino. I didn't even realize they had a venue at this casino until I heard about this show. The name of the venue at the casino is called Pearl, a weird name for a weird venue. The show was sold out well in advance, not sure what the room holds for attendance but my guess would be a couple hundred for this show. Even the band made a comment about the weirdness of the room.

The show started with Steven Page doing the Barenaked Ladies song "It's All Been Done". I had never seen the Barenaked Ladies perform before so it was cool to finally see and hear Steven Page live, and he was in good form, as all the members were. I've included the setlist so as you can see all the songs played. Each member did three songs from their bands. And each member played each instrument. Was weird to see Moe Berg on bass and even weirder to see him on drums. Talented bunch of guys to be able to switch up the instruments through out the almost two hour show. And between song banter was quite funny too. Very nice to see a group of musicians like this having so much fun on stage. This was an incredibly fun show to see. Good times!!!

Trans-Canada Highwaymen.

It was also cool that after the show all the members were at the merch table signing autographs and taking pictures with the fans. I managed to get my poster autographed by all the members and get a picture taken with Steven Page.
