Emmylou Harris/Rodney Crowell and Richard Thompson in Edmonton Nov.11th 2013

On Monday night my buddy Hurl and I went to the excellent double bill of Richard Thompson opening for Emmylou Harris with Rodney Crowell show at the Jubilee Auditorium here in Edmonton.

This show was almost like a mini folk fest at the beginning of winter.

This was my second time seeing Richard Thompson in concert. With Thompson's latest release called "Electric" I was really hoping to see him perform with a full band this time. But again it was just Richard alone playing solo, not that there is anything wrong with that, as he put on a great show again. Richard Thompson is always an engaging performer and as always the highlight of the show for me was his song "1952 Vincent Black Lightning" his guitar playing in this song is amazing. He also did a song from his old band he was in, in the 60's Fairport Convention playing the song "Who Knows Where The Time Goes". he also did a song from his new album, a song called "Good Things Happen To Bad People". His hour long set was great from start to finish, a great opening act for this show.

Headlining the evening was Emmylou Harris with Rodney Crowell. This was my second time seeing Emmylou in concert and first time seeing Rodney Crowell. I enjoyed this show of Emmylou's much more then I did the first time. I'm thinking it was because of her having a full band with her this time, as last time it was just her solo, and I found it to be very slow and mellow. This nights show was more upbeat, with Emmylou and Rodney Crowell opening the show with the Gram Parsons song "Return Of The Grievous Angel" in which Emmylou had sung on when it was first released back in 1974, another great cover they did was the Townes Van Zandt song "Pancho & Lefty".

With Emmylou Harris and Rodney Crowell touring for the album Old Yellow Moon that they did together on 2012, they had to do a few from the album. The songs they did were the title song and "Dreaming My Dreams". Another nice touch was having opener Richard Thompson come out and do a couple of songs with them. Emmylou Harris still has a great voice, and this being the first time I have actually really heard Rodney Crowell, he was no slouch either, also a great back-up band with them.

All and all a pretty decent concert. Good times!!!

12 Years Ago Today...Feb.12th

It was twelve years ago today that I saw Everclear play the Conference Centre here in Edmonton with Nickleback opening. And ya Nickleback sucked back then too.

It was also six years ago today that I saw Emmylou Harris play at the Jubilee Auditorium in Edmonton.

Ticket Stub Of The Day July 7th (Emmylou Harris)

Today's ticket stub is from the Emmylou Harris concert I saw in 2007 at the Jubilee Auditorium in Edmonton. I went to this show with my buddy Buzzard whom got me interested in Emmy years ago when he played me her album "Wrecking Ball".
