Concert Shirt/Poster Of The Day July 31st (Dread Zeppelin)

Today's t-shirt is from the third time I saw Dread Zeppelin in concert. This show was at the old Bronx in Edmonton (now the Starlite Room) back in November of 1993. I went to this show with A-Bomb,Nerraw,and Eor. If you have never heard or seen Dread Zeppelin, they are a band with an Elvis impersonator (Tortelvis) doing Led Zeppelin songs reggae style. This is a very fun band to see live. Doin' the claw!!!

Concert Shirt Of The Day July 29th (Iron Madien)

Today's t-shirt is from the second ever concert I went to. It was a great double bill of Iron Maiden with opening act Twisted Sister in 1984 at Northlands Coliseum in Edmonton. Maiden were on tour for their Powerslave album and Twisted Sister were touring for their Stay Hungry album. For 1984 this was an awesome double bill of metal with Twisted Sister giving Maiden a run for there money. Overall a really good show and time.

Concert Shirt Of The Day July 27th (Pearl Jam)

Today's concert shirt is from the first time I saw Pearl Jam in concert. This show was in 1993 at The Convention Centre here in Edmonton. Cadillac Tramps were the opening band. Pearl Jam only had their debut album out at the time as the album Vs. was released about 3 months after this show. This was a great double bill, had no idea who the Cadillac Tramps were at the time but became a big fan of them after seeing them open for Pearl Jam.

I went to this show with A-Bomb,Eor,Nerraw and I think Scotty. On the way into the show, I had mentioned to the friends that if they heard anyone selling psychedelics, to let me know. No sooner did I say that, on the way down the stairs to the venue, we ran in to someone selling yellow micro dot acid. We all bought some, of course, and ended up having a great time. The music was awesome, both bands, and a good time was had by all.

Concert Poster Of The Day July 26th (Great Big Sea)

Today's poster is from the first time I saw Great Big Sea in concert, this show was at The Rev in 1996. At the time I hadn't really heard a lot of GBS's tunes, but what an amazing and fun show it was. Lots of Newfies at the show dancing it up and singing along, the crowd was as entertaining as the band, a really good time was had at this show. Good times!!!

In concert news... Great Big Sea will be coming through Edmonton again on Saturday October 30th at The Jubilee Auditorium. They just released a new album called Safe Upon The Shore last week.

Concert Shirt/Poster Of The Day July 25th (Cry Of Love)

Today's t-shirt is from the band Cry Of Love. I saw this show at People's Pub here in Edmonton. This was back in 1994 when People's Pub was a great venue for live music. Once again I sold merchandise for the band (thanks to Scotty lining that up for me) Cry Of Love were a great rock n' roll band from North Carolina that played a southern rock influenced music, they never got the recognition I think they deserved. Their debut album Brother was a really good album that I still listen to once in a while.

Back in the early 90's there was a metal magazine based out of Toronto called M.E.A.T. that you used to be able to pick up for free at the local record shops around Edmonton. I wrote a review of this concert that was published in the magazine. Here is the review that I wrote.

Concert Poster Of The Day July 22nd (Black Crowes)

Today's poster is from the 2001 Black Crowes show I went to in at The Orpheum Theatre in Vancouver. I have been huge fan of the Crowes since their debut album, but have to admit this wasn't one of the better shows I have seen them play. Seemed like they were just going through the motions, disappointing concert this was. You can click here for the set list of this show.

Concert Shirt Of The Day July 21st (Eagles)

Today's t-shirt is from the time I saw the Eagles play at the Coliseum in Edmonton in 1995 on their Hell Freezes Over tour. This was the first time I had ever payed 100 dollars for a concert. I wasn't going to go to this show cause of the price of tickets, but day of the show I was able to score row 2 on the floor for the show, so I sucked it up and went. Joe Walsh stole this show, he was awesome. I just wish I could see Joe Walsh play a solo show, now that would be cool.

Concert Poster Of The Day July 20th (Weird Al Yankovic)

Today's poster is from the Weird Al Yankovic concert my buddy Geddy and I went to at The Jubilee Auditorium in 1995. This was actually a very entertaining concert and a lot of fun, even if half the audience were little kids. Didn't stop us from having fun though. Good times!!!

Concert Shirt/Poster Of The Day July 19th (Willie Nelson)

Today's t-shirt is from the first time I saw Willie Nelson in concert in 2005 at Rexall Place in Edmonton with Kathleen Edwards opening. I went to this show with my Dad as a Father's Day gift to him. This was an excellent show and we both had a really good time at the concert. We had row 2 on the floor for this show as well, which is the closest my Dad had ever sat in for a concert.

Concert Poster Of The Day July 18th (Compromise)

Today's poster is from what would be the last time I saw local hardcore band Compromise, the show was at Stars on Whyte Ave. in Edmonton. It was only weeks later when Compromise were on tour through the States that they were involved in an accident that killed two of the members of the band. It was June 13th 2002 while en route to Savannah,Georgia that their van was clipped by a drunk driver sending them into the ditch killing guitarists Jordan Wodehouse and Daniel Langlois and injuring the others. This was a very sad day in the Edmonton and hardcore music scene. I will never forget waking up to go to work and seeing this on the morning news. I instantly broke down crying, having known some of the members of the band. I got to know lead singer Jesse Zaraska through a job we worked together doing picture framing. Jesse would later go onto putting on a festival in tribute to Jordan and Daniel called Yesterday Was Everything. Jesse would also later go onto fronting the hardcore band Misery Signals, he is no longer in the band, but on their first album (Of Malice And The Magnum Heart) Misery Signals wrote a song called "The Year Summer Ended In June" I have included the video on this post and hope you will have a watch and listen. It is a very touching song. RIP Jordan and Daniel, you will never be forgotten.

The Year Summer Ended In June

This time
It was our summer
It was something
No one could take from us

Sometimes that night seems so close
Like I could hold it
You said alright we'll be fine
But how could we have known
Do you remember
Roll down the window and let in night air
I always thought we'd be together
You said,
You said that we'd never gone this way before

I must not let you die
Your memory survives
I Hope that tonight things are fine
As I lay awake
The light cuts the southern sky
And that glass stings my lungs
These scars they will
They will always remind me of you and how your always with me

Your with me
Your with me
You are with me, always with me

Nothing, Won't you stay
and
be
with
me
Tonight, tonight

Don't you know I tried to find those pictures with no light
I lost them as I lost you
I lost them as I lost you
Waiting, waiting to see and be with you again
With you again
Wishing the best for you my lost friends, my lost friends
To hear you laugh one last time
I hope you know I tried to find those pictures Jordo,
Of us
That night in Detroit with The Preshure Point
And I,
I feel the need to fly and hide inside
And I,
I feel the need to hide inside your loving arms

Man I swear I'd give the whole thing up for you

Concert Shirt Of The Day July 17th (Mark Knopfler)

Today's t-shirt is from the Mark Knopfler concert Buzzard and I attended in 2008 at The Jubilee Auditorium in Edmonton. I have never really been a big fan of his band Dire Straits, I really do enjoy his solo stuff. He was touring for his Kill To Get Crimson album, which is an alright album. But not near as good as his first two solo albums. The show itself was excellent.

Concert Poster Of The Day July 16th (Inxs)

Today's poster is from a show I saw on my birthday, for as many concerts as I have been to, this is one of I think maybe 3 shows I have seen on my birthday. This was the Inxs and Soup Dragons concert I saw at Northlands Coliseum in 1991. It was actually a really good double bill. I found the Soup Dragons to be an interesting live band.

Concert Shirt Of The Day July 15th (Mr. Big)

Today's t-shirt is from the time I saw the band Mr. Big open for Rush at Northlands Coliseum in Edmonton in 1990. Anyone remember Mr. Big? They had an awesome bass player in Billy Sheehan,Paul Gilbert on guitar and Eric Martin on vocals and Paul Torpey on drums this was actually a great double bill if you were into bass players. Mr. Big were touring for their debut album that had the big sappy hit (To Be With You). Rush were touring for the Presto album. This was my first time seeing Rush in concert and the first time Rush had played Edmonton in many years.

Concert Poster Of The Day July 14th (Cadillac Tramps)

Today's poster is from the Cadillac Tramps show I saw at The Rev in Edmonton. I believe this show was in 1994, I saw this band quite a few times within 1993-1995. I am not able to find the ticket stub for this show, so I am thinking it was just a cover charge. Anyways, was a big fan of this band and they always put on a good show.
