Seven Inch Sunday (Alice Cooper)

It's been a while since I have done a Sunday seven inch single. So today I will write about a Alice Cooper seven inch single I picked up last weekend at the Dead Vinyl Society monthly record swap. I had to pick this up as the cover itself is hilarious. Alice looks very John Travolta like on it.

This is a single that was released in 1977 featuring the lead off single "You And Me" from Alice Cooper's 1977 album Lace and Whiskey. This song is a ballad and went to number three here in Canada and number nine in the US. It was the last top ten single Cooper had until the song "Poison" from his Trash album 12 years later. Alice performed this song on the Muppet Show in 1978. I have included a video of said performance.

On the B side of this single is another song from the Lace and Whiskey album, a song called "It's Hot Tonight"

Seven Inch Saturday (Fake Problems / Gaslight Anthem)

Today's seven inch single, also works for my cover song of the day. It is the Fake Problems / Gaslight Anthem split single. Side A is the song from the Naples, Florida band Fake Problems, the song being "Songs For Teenagers" from their 2010 album Real Ghosts Caught On Tape released on SideOneDummy Records.

The B Side is a cover of the Fake Problems song "Songs For Teenagers" covered by the New Jersey band Gaslight Anthem. I really like this version of the song as well. The single was released in 2011 and limited to 500 copies on neon green vinyl.

I was lucky too have seen both these bands play together back in 2010 in Edmonton when Fake Problems opened for Gaslight Anthem.

Original version by Fake Problems.

Seven Inch Saturday (Anthrax)

It's been a while since I have done a seven inch Saturday post, so here we go. I've been busy with listing my vinyl on Discogs that last little while and haven't updated the blog a whole lot. But now that the listing is done I can get back to writing more. After going through all my vinyl, I've come across some stuff I forgot I even had. So I am going to start writing a bit more about some vinyl I have re-discovered.

Today I am starting with a seven inch single from the band Anthrax. This was part of a series of Record Store Day releases (or Disquaire Day in French) from 2016. These releases which also include Twenty One Pilots, La Femme and The Doors are singles that honour the musical connection between France and the USA. All the releases are in memory of those last in the 2015 Paris attack in which 130 people lost their lives in a terror attack. The only one I picked up is the Anthrax single which features the songs "Antisocial" (Trust cover) from Anthrax's 1988 album State Of Euphoria, b/w "In The End" both songs are live versions. The song "In The End" from Anthrax's 2011 album Worship Music is wrote as a tribute to 'Dimebag' Darrell (Pantera) and Ronnie James Dio (Black Sabbath, Rainbow, Dio). This single is a limited pressing of 1500 copies on red vinyl. Both songs were recorded in Tokyo not sure of what year though as there is nothing on the cover or record telling you. I found both live recordings to sound very muffled and muddy sounding, not a very good recording at all, almost bootleg like.

Side A - Antisocial

Side B - In The End

In concert news...Anthrax will be coming through Edmonton again this spring with Slayer and Testament on Sunday May 20th at The Shaw Conference Centre.

Seven Inch Sunday (T Rex)

Today's seven inch single is from T Rex. A couple of weeks ago while digging through some used records and a local record store I came across the 1970 Tyrannosaurus Rex album A Beard Of Stars that was released on Blue Thumb Records. Included with this release is the seven inch single that features the two songs "Ride A White Swan" and "Summertime Blues". I was happy just finding the album never mind the single still with it.

Seven Inch Sunday (Bob Dylan)

Today's seven inch single is a 45 I picked up today for a dollar. It is a Bob Dylan single featuring "Like A Rolling Stone" from 1965 and "Rainy Day Women # 12 & 35" from 1966. After looking at the Discogs website, I see this was released in 1997. This release Hall Of Fame / Disques D'or is a series and not a label, the label would be Columbia Records of course. It is a Canadian release and series.

Seven Inch Sunday (The Tragically Hip)

Today's seven inch single is by The Tragically Hip. This was a Black Friday Record Store Day release. There were only 2000 of these pressed on green vinyl, with each one numbered, mine being #1166. The two songs on this single are "Tired As Fuck" from their 2016 release Man Machine Poem. The B side is a previously unavailable US radio version of the song "At The Hundredth Meridian" from their 1992 album Fully Completely.

Side A - Tired As Fuck

Side B - At The Hundredth Meridian

Today's seven inch single is from Jack White, this single includes the two songs Side A - Alone In My Room (Demo) and Side B - Entitlement. Both these songs were on his 2014 solo album Lazaretto. But on this release which came with the Third Man Records Vault Package #20 both songs are demos.

Seven Inch Sunday (Vinnie Vincent Invasion)

Today's seven inch single is from the Vinnie Vincent Invasion, Vinnie being a guitar player in KISS between 1982-1984. This is a single I received in the mail back in 1986. Not sure why I got this, maybe because I was a part of the KISS Army at the time. But I'm not complaining, cause it's a pretty cool single.

It's a pink single featuring two songs from at the time the forthcoming Vinne Vincent Invasion album. Side A features the song Boyz Are Gonna Rock and Side 1 is Animal. Ya the labels are fucked on this single.

I often wonder whatever become of Vinnie Vincent.

Seven Inch Saturday (Drive-By Truckers)

Today's seven inch single is from the Drive-By Truckers. I recently got their new album We're An American Band that I had pre-ordered months ago. With the new release came this seven inch with the song "Kinky Hypocrite". The song is not on the full length vinyl version, just a one sided single. And why only one song on a seven inch, you would think they would have at least one left over song they could have put on side B.

Seven Inch Sunday (Metallica)

Today's seven inch single is from Metallica. This single came with a bootleg I bought years ago at Sound Connection here in Edmonton. The bootleg is called Live Before Death it is a double album which contains 6 songs recorded live in San Francisco Oct. 18th 1982 ,3 songs from a San Francisco show Sept.18th 1982 and 9 songs from a show in Glenn Falls, NY April 27th 1986. With this bootleg came the bonus seven inch which has two songs on Side A, those two songs being Am I Evil and Damage Inc., there is nothing on Side B all vinyl as you can see are on pink vinyl. This was released in 1987.

Seven Inch Saturday (Pink Floyd)

Today's seven inch single is from Pink Floyd featuring the songs See Emily Play on side A and on the flip side is Scarecrow. Both songs were on the debut album The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn released in 1967. The single I have is a mono version on pink vinyl reissue that was released in 2013 as part of Record Store Day. It was a limited edition of 5000 copies. Both songs were written by Syd Barrett are true classic psychedelic songs.

Seven Inch Saturday (Gaslight Anthem)

Today's seven inch Saturday single from Gaslight Anthem, is a live bootleg recorded in 2008 at the Area 4 Festival in Ludinghausen, Germany. The recording is called No Retreat, No Regrets. The seven inch contains four songs, the recording is mediocre at best. Only 150 were pressed on green vinyl which is the version I have. There were also 150 pressed on red vinyl.

Seven Inch Saturday (Rolling Stones)

Finally getting around to doing another Seven Inch Saturday post. Today's post is a seven inch single I picked up last weekend at the Bring Out Your Dead Vinyl event held once a month here in Edmonton. This time the event was held at The Empress Ale House.

I found this single by the Rolling Stones, it is the single for the song Angie from the Stones 1973 album Goats Head Soup. Side two of the single is the song Silver Train from the same album.

The main reason I bought this single was for the sleeve in which it came in. Had never seen this before, and for two dollars, I thought what the hell, why not!

Seven Inch Sunday (Pornography)

Today's seven inch single is from a band called Pornography which is a punk rock band featuring Ryan Adams on guitar and bass, also in the band is Leah Hennessey on vocals and Johnny T. Yerington on drums. This seven inch is titled 7 Minutes In Heaven and was released on Ryan Adams' label PAX AM Records in 2013. The single contains seven songs none of which run more then a minute if that. In all reality, it's really not that good, in my opinion anyways.

Seven Inch Sunday (Queen)

Today's seven inch single is by Queen featuring the song "One Vision", this single was released in November of 1985 and featured on the album A Kind Of Magic. The B side to the single is "Blurred Vision" which is a remixed version of "One Vision".

The single I have says that the One Vision song is from The Original Motion Soundtrack Iron Eagle.

Seven Inch Sunday (Bee Gees/Faith No More)

Today's seven inch single is one I picked up last weekend on Record Store Day. This single is part of the RSD Side By Side series. It features the song "I Started A Joke" by the Bee Gees, that originally came out in 1968 on their album Idea. Faith No More went on to cover it as a B-Side for their song "Digging The Grave", it was eventually released on their 1995 album King For A Day...Fool For A Lifetime.

Original version by the Bee Gees.

Seven Inch Sunday (Paul McCartney)

Todays seven inch single is from Paul McCartney, the one time Beatle, as if no one doesn't already know what. Anyways, the single I picked this time is a seven inch that I just picked up last weekend at a record fair here. I bought a used copy of Paul McCartney's second solo album McCartney II for two dollars, much to my surprise in side the record sleeve was this single "Coming Up (Live at Glasgow)" that originally came with the McCartney II album back in 1979. The B side of this single contains nothing, it's just straight black with no grooves, so a single sided single. A Nice score for what I paid for it.

Seven Inch Sunday (Hard Core Logo/D.O.A.)

Today's seven inch single is a split single featuring Hard Core Logo and D.O.A. on Sudden Death Records, this was released in 2010. It was a limited edition release of 500, my copy is #486.

Side A is Hard Core Logo - Who The Hell Do You Think You Are? recorded live at the Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver 11/07/95.

Side Eh?! is D.O.A. - Blue Tattoo.

Hard Core Logo is a Canadian movie that came out in 1996. The movie was a mockumentary on the punk band Hard Core Logo. It is a movie based on the novel by Michael Turner, the movie was directed by Bruce McDonald. It's an amazing movie and well worth watching.
