Corb Lund w/ Jr. Gone Wild in Edmonton July 28th 2013

On Sunday July 28th my buddy Hurl and I went to the Corb Lund and Jr. Gone Wild show at the Starlite Room here in Edmonton. We had to leave the Steve Earle show early so that we could make it to the Starlite Room to catch Jr. Gone Wild's set. It sucked having to miss some of the Steve Earle show, but after spending the last 3 nights outdoors in the dampness and chilly weather, it felt good to get indoors for a concert, and have a Budweiser, as we had been drinking Big Rock for three days, mmmm Bud.

This show was billed as "Edmonton For Southern Alberta" benefit concert. All the proceeds from this show was going to help with the flood relief in southern Alberta after they were hit with terrible flooding in June. The bands on this bill were Ann Vriend, The Fuzz Kings, Jr. Gone Wild and Corb Lund and The Hurtin' Albertans. Unfortunately Hurl and I missed the first two acts as we were at the Interstellar Rodeo Festival in Hawrelak Park. We made it to the Starlite Room in time to catch the last half of Jr. Gone Wild's set, and thank goodness we did. Jr. was rocking the hell out of the Starlite on this evening, after having just seen them play the Interstellar on Friday night, the band seemed like they were in their element on this evening. This was my third time seeing Jr. Gone Wild, but first time seeing them play in a bar setting. And this is where they seemed most at home.

A few pictures from the show. They didn't turn out well at all, but that's all I got.

Jr. Gone Wild.

The headliner of the show was Corb Lund and The Hurtin' Albertans. This was my ninth time seeing Corb Lund in concert and first time in five years. The previous two times I had seen Corb in concert were in big venues like the Jubilee Auditorium and Rexall Place. So it was good to see him play in a small venue again in his hometown. Also, he has put out a few albums since I last saw him play as well, so I was going to get to hear some tunes I had yet to see or hear him perform live again. The Starlite Room was packed on this night and felt like walking in to a sauna, super sweaty like any good rock n' roll show should be. The bar was full of cowboy hats and old school rockers, made for a different crowd, as Corb Lund has a good crossover of fans, both rockers and country fans. I am betting this was the first time a lot of these country fans had ever stepped foot in the Starlite Room before. Corb Lund was sporting a big bushy beard making him look like a big ol' lumber jack. Him and the band were playing great and put on an awesome show playing material from all of his seven releases, lots from his latest album "Cabin Fever" and playing his newest song "Blood, Sweat & Water" (A song for Southern Alberta). Good times!!!

Corb Lund.
