Perry Farrell Live in Toronto June 25th 2019

Another show I caught while on holidays was Perry Farrell at the Mod Club Theatre in Toronto. I was super stoked about getting to see this concert, as I really like Perry Farrell's new project The Kind Heaven Orchestra the new album Kind Heaven is very interesting mixing rock, psychedlia, pop and just plain weirdness, would you expect anything else from the one time lead man of Jane's Addiction and Porno For Pyros. The album Kind Heaven came out just a few weeks before this show, and this was the only Canadian date on the tour so far. Having only seen Jane's Addiction once and never getting to Porno For Pyros live, this was gonna be an experience to see Perry play a club. I was a little surprised that the show wasn't sold out, by my guess I would say the club holds around 600 people, I would say there were maybe 400-500 in attendance. Maybe because it was a Tuesday night show, who knows. There was no opening act, just Perry Farrell and his nine piece band. And the set was only 75 minutes long, so with an 8:30 start, this show was over early, which surprised me.

Perry Farrell and his band which includes his wife Etty Farrell also on vocals opened the show with a song from Kind Heaven called "More Than I Could Bear". Perry came out wearing a big ass hat bare chested in a vest with a huge puffy sleeve on one arm and a lace glove on the other, while his wife Etty was wearing a red lingerie kind of outfit and looking some good in it too. During the first song the two were singing together and dancing when Perry went to dip his wife but ended up dropping her, oh oh, this isn't a good way to start. She didn't look impressed, but seemed to get over it quickly. The short set was made up mostly of songs from Kind Heaven which also included "(red, white, and blue) Cheerfulness", "Machine Girl", "Where Have You been All My Life" and the first single "Pirate Punk Politician". They also played a couple Porno For Pyros songs, the first one being "Pets" which then segued into another new song "Snakes Have Many Hips". The other Porno song they did was the beautiful "Tahitian Moon".

One of the biggest surprises for me was when Perry said I understand we are playing a Mod Club and said let's play a little mod song and ended up doing the Tom Petty song "I Need To Know". The biggest and loudest reaction to songs of course were the Jane's Addiction songs they did which were "Been Caught Stealing", "Jane Says" and to close out the short set "Mountain Song", all of these old songs sounded incredible with Perry still able to hit all the notes. All and all a great show just wish it had been longer. Good times!!!
