Well it's been a week already since my buddies A-Bomb, Buzzard and I went to the sold out Jr. Gone Wild show at SOHO. I was surprised when this show got announced as Jr. Gone Wild has been on hiatus since July of 2022 when they had announced that it would be their last show. So after a year and a half they are back. Maybe just a one off show, not sure, here is hoping there are more shows to come.
The evening started with a local band called VelociTractor. Not sure how you would describe their style of music, a touch of bluegrass, country with a touch of punk maybe. They were alright, I thought the lead singer Tiff on the squeeze box had a strong voice.
Next up was another local singer songwriter Jody Shenkarek and The Strings of Destiny. I've seen Jody a few times and she always draws an audience. A very old school country set, slow and brooding tunes, strong vocals again.
And headlining was Edmonton's cow-punks Jr. Gone Wild. So nice to see Mike McDonald (guitar and lead vocals), Steve Loree (guitar and vocals), Dove (bass and vocals) and Quinton Herbert (drums and vocals) back together and rocking the joint. After the first two acts it was nice t hear some fucking rock n' roll. This would be my 16th time seeing the band in concert, and again they did not disappoint. An hour and a half long set covering songs from their vast discography and even a few covers. Always a good time. Hope this is the start of the band getting back together full time. Good times!!!
