Shooter Jennings & Jessi Colter Live in Enoch, Alberta Oct.6th 2018

Last Saturday Buzzard, Char and I went to the Shooter Jennings and Jessi Colter concert at The Venue at the River Cree Casino just on the outskirts of Edmonton (Enoch).

I had actually forgot we had tickets for this show til BZ reminded me the night of the McCartney show, we had bought the tickets back in May before things went side-ways in my life.

I don't really know a lot of Shooter Jennings songs but have read a bit about him and was very interested in seeing the son of the legendary outlaw country musician Waylon Jennings, and joining Shooter would be his Mom Jessi Colter who was married to Waylon, and had a pretty good career herself in the 70's.

I had thought it was going to be Jessi Colter opening and then Shooter headlining and figured the two would collaborate during Shooter's set. So I was surprised when the concert started and there was Shooter on stage and belting it out while playing the piano. I was kind of expecting a more country/roots rock show, but when Shooter strapped on the guitar he rocked the hell out of the half full venue. Shooter certainly has his father's look and attitude. Some of the songs played were "Bound Ta Git Down" which was an absolute rocker of a tune, "Living In A Minor Key","4th Of July", "D.R.U.N.K.", "Denim And Diamonds" and a George Jones cover.

About three quarters of the way through the two hour show Shooter brought out his Mom Jessi Colter to play a couple of songs from the Wanted! The Outlaws album which is one of the best selling country albums of all time. This album consisted of Jessi Colter, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson and Tompall Glaser. She told a couple of great stories about Waylon. At 75 years old Jessi still sounds pretty damn good. This show was a much more rocking show then I was expecting and would certainly go see Shooter in concert again. Good times!!!
