This poster is from the 1997 edition of Edgefest, the poster says Telus Field but was actually moved to Commonwealth Stadium as there were close to 30,000 people at the show. The show consisted mostly of Canadian bands, on this bill it was Our Lady Peace,I Mother Earth,Tea Party,Age Of Electric and Australian band Silverchair and others.

C'mon In Concert 07/03/10
Last night Saturday July 3rd my friend Hurl and I caught C'mon from Toronto in concert at The Pawn Shop on Whyte Ave (advance tickets were only 5 dollars). This show kind of came out of nowhere as I didn't hear about it til I saw a poster on the ave for it on Canada Day. With so little advertising for this show, there wasn't a very good turn out, nonetheless C'mon came out rocking hard and loud like they were playing to thousands of people. C'mon are touring for their new album "Beyond The Pale Horse" which I picked up on CD for 7 dollars. What I heard from the album that they played last night, it sure sounds like another straight up balls to the wall rock album. For a three piece band consisting of Ian Blurton on guitar/vocals,Katie Lynn on bass/vocals and Dean Bentley on drums they sure do make a lot of noise. Another great evening of rock n' roll from C'mon, this was my second time seeing them and they just keeping getting better. I look forward to the next time they come through town. I would give this show a 9 out of 10.

This has got to be one of the coolest ticket stubs I have ever got for a bar show.

Concert Shirt Of The Day July 4th (Headstones)
Today's t-shirt is from the time I saw The Headstones open for I Mother Earth at People's Pub in 1994, talk about a great double bill of Canadian hard rock. At the time my good friend Scotty use to book the bands and DJ at People's, he would give me a shout if a band needed someone to sell merchandise for them. I was going to go to the show anyways, as I was big fan of IME, but Scotty was able to get me in for free to do merch. I really had no idea who The Headstones were at the time, but wow, when they came out to play they just floored the crowd. The Headstones kicked major ass with an all out rock almost punk rock sound. I was totally blown away by how good they were. They definitely won over some fans on this night. I got to meet the guys in The Headstones, whom were all really good guys, got a free t-shirt and CD out of the deal as well. They also kept me well stocked with free beers through out the show. A really good time was had, and they sold a hell of a lot of shirts too, I was kept busy.

Checkout the line up of music for the week at People's Pub, man they used to book some decent bands there.

Big Rude Jake In Concert 06/30/10

On Wednesday night I went to checkout Big Rude Jake playing at Blues On Whyte at The Commercial Hotel on Whyte Ave. Big Rude Jake is a musician from Toronto whom I haven't seen play since the time he opened for Big Sugar in 1997. When I saw him in 1997 he was touring for his Blue Pariah album which is really good. At that time he had more of a big band/blues sound. I didn't realize he was still putting out music as I haven't heard his name in ages, so I was stoked to see him playing at a blues bar. His latest album is called Quicksand and has more of a jazz sound now. The show he did at The Commie was quite good and he played more a blues set then jazz, which makes sense as he was at a blues club. I only caught his last set of the evening, but what I saw and heard I really enjoyed. I would give the show a 7 out of 10.

Concert Poster Of The Day July 3rd (Sex Pistols)
Today's poster is from the Sex Pistols reunion concert my brother and I saw in Vancouver at the Pacific Coliseum in 1996. My favorite part of this show was when Johnny Rotten invited everyone down to the floor to be closer to the stage. There were only about 5,000 people at the show, but when this happened there was absolutely nothing security could do when the onslaught of people made their way over the boards.Good times!!!

Concert Poster Of The Day July 1st (Colin James)
Today's poster is from the Canada Day concert in 2001 at the legislature grounds of Edmonton with Coiln James and openers Wide Mouth Mason. This show had a great turn out with thousands of people on the leg. grounds, after the show everyone congregated to Whyte Avenue. This was the night of the infamous Whyte Ave. riot. Things got crazy with people breaking windows on businesses and looting stores. A crazy night indeed.

In concert news...Colin James will be playing at Capital Ex (Klondike Days) on Saturday July 24th.
