Concert Posters Of The Day Apr.30th (Sloan)

Today's posters are from the fourth time I saw Sloan in concert. I went to this show with my Cuz in 2008 at The Urban Lounge on Whyte Avenue in Edmonton. It was a pretty good show, you never know with Sloan, I find they are kind of hit and miss when you see them live. This time though it was alright.

What was cool at this show was some of the merchandise they were selling. I picked up a Sloan coffee mug and some Sloan cards, I thought that was cool. The cards are a take off on the old KISS cards from the 70's, the exact same border and lay out, 10 cards per pack for two dollars, good deal and cool idea, wish I could get the full set of them.

Coffee Mug.

Sloan Cards.

In concert news... Sloan will be playing in Edmonton at The Stralite Room on Tuesday May 31st as part of their 20th Anniversary Tour.

Concert Shirt/Poster Of The Day Apr.29th (Vans Warped Tour)

Today's t-shirt is from the first Vans Warped Tour I went to, this show was in 2000 in Calgary at the Race City Motorsport Park. I went to this show with my brother. This was an awesome line up including bands Green Day, Snapcase, Hot Water Music, The Bosstones, Long Beach Dub All-Star Band and many others. My brother and I had a great time at this concert. This was probably the best Warped Tour line up ever.

Concert Shirt/Posters Of The Day Apr.27th (Tragically Hip)

Today's shirt is a long sleeve Tragically Hip shirt I got at the Tragically Hip show I saw in 1995 at Northlands Coliseum in Edmonton. The opening bands for this show were The Odds and Change Of Heart, a great triple bill of Canadian rock n' roll. This was my fourth time seeing The Hip in concert.

Concert Poster Of The Day Apr.26th (Lowest Of The Low)

Today's poster is from the third time I saw Toronto band Lowest Of The Low, opening act for this show was Winnipeg based singer/songwriter Greg MacPherson. This show was at The Rev in 2002. I went to this show with my buddy Buzzard and Lorreine.

Concert Shirt/Poster Of The Day Apr.25th (Social Distortion)

Today's t-shirt is from the second time I saw Social Distortion in concert. This show was in 2007 at the Edmonton Events Centre with opening acts Black Halos and I Hate Kate. I went to this show with my friend Leo and had a great time, thanks for the weird psychedelics, lol. Social D rocked the shit out of the place this evening. My favorite memory of this show was at the end during Social D's cover of the Johnny Cash song "Ring Of Fire" a small brawl of about 6-8 people broke out at the back of the venue, that really made it feel like a good old rock n' roll show. Good times!!!

KISS Collectible Of The Day Apr.24th

Today's KISS Collectible is another Xmas ornament I got this past Xmas from Janis. This ornament just came out in 2010 by Kurt S. Adler. Ya, I know it's not very Easter like, but until I get KISS Easter Bunny, this is what you get.

Concert Poster Of The Day Apr.24th (The Doors)

Today's poster is from the Strange Days Festival show Janis and I went to in 2005 at Rexall Place in Edmonton. This Festival included the Pat Travers Band, Vanilla Fudge and The Doors Of The 21st Century which was Ian Astbury from The Cult taking the role of the late Jim Morrison, with original members Ray Manzarek and Robby Krieger. Th Pat Travers Band was alright, nothing special, I enjoyed Vanilla Fudge and their psychedelic music and The Doors Of The 21st Century were ok. I have to admit Ian Astbury did a good job of being Jim Morriosn, had the look down, sounded like Jim, but I couldn't get by the fact that it just wasn't Jim Morrison. I have never been a fan of Ian or The Cult, so to me I thought it was terrible. To see Ray Manzarek and Robby Krieger do the old Doors songs was cool, but it all just seemed like a cash grab. I would never have gone to this show if I hadn't won tickets from the record store Megatunes at the last minute.

Concert Shirt/Poster Of The Day Apr.23rd (Heaven And Hell)

Today's t-shirt is from the Heaven And Hell concert my friend A-Bomb and I attended in 2007 at Rexall Place in Edmonton. Heaven And Hell is actually the Black Sabbath line up of Ronnie James Dio, Geezer Butler, Tony Iommi and Vinny Appice. They had to use the Heaven And Hell name because of court shit with Ozzy. The opening bands for this show were Megadeth and Down. Down had cancelled because of border issues, so Megadeth played for over an hour and put on a great show. This was my fifth time seeing Megadeth and probably the best performance I have seen them put on, I was quite impressed. As for Heaven And Hell, I wasn't all that impressed with their set, I thought they were alright but not as good as I was expecting. Ronnie died in May of 2010 of stomach cancer, so that may have had something to do with the lacking performance. The show just wasn't as good as I was hoping.

It was funny during Heaven And Hell's show, A-Bomb and I had stepped outside for a smoke, while outside, we saw several people getting kicked out of the coliseum. Everyone of them were obviously drunk, and each one of them come out of the venue yelling "I saw Dave Mustaine kick ass" it seemed not one of them cared that they missed Heaven And hell's set, they were just happy to have seen Dave Mustaine and Megadeth. I guess you could say Megadeth stole this show.

RIP Ronnie, you are missed.

Heaven And Hell Setlist for the Edmonton concert.

Marcy Playground in Concert 04.21.2011

Last night my buddy Hurl and I went to the Century Casino in Edmonton to see the band Marcy Playground play. Ya, who knew they were even still around,or cared, after their one big hit from 1997 "Sex and Candy" I thought they had broken up, apparently not. Although, I think there is only one original member in the band.

I would normally not even think of going to this show, but I won tickets from Foundation Concerts, I entered the draw on a lark and won, go figure. Well, we had nothing better to do, so we went to the show. I hope no one paid to see this show, cause it was awful. From the turn out for the show, it looked like no one paid to see it, there were less then a hundred people at it. The place was empty.

Seems like the band can't decide what they want to sound like, cheesy hard rock, bad psychedelia, bad nursery rhymes it was all just plain old bad. No wonder there was no one there.

If I learned anything from the show, it's that the Century Casino live venue is a pretty cool venue, the sound is good and not a bad seat in the place. I would definitely checkout another show there if they ever book a decent band to play at the venue.

Empty Bar.

Ticket Stub Of The Day Apr.22nd (Joan Jett)

Today's ticket stub is from the Canada Day concert I saw in 1992 at Clarke Stadium in Edmonton. The line up for this show included David Gogo opening the show followed by Joan Jett and The Blackhearts who put on a great show despite it hailing during her set, other bands on the bill were Grapes Of Wrath and Barney Bentall. What I remember most about this show was the terrible turn out for the concert and the shitty weather. Hail, rain and wind through out the day made for a bad show no matter how much a guy drank. I remember having a glass of beer in my hand during Joan Jett and it started hailing, big hail too, as one hail stone landed in my glass of beer and almost emptied it, damn hail, time to guzzle. There were less then a thousand people at the show which is awful for a stadium that holds probably ten thousand. I didn't stick around much longer after Joan Jett's set.

Concert Shirt/Poster Of The Day Apr.21st (Pride Tiger)

Today's t-shirt is from the time I saw Vancouver band Pride Tiger play The Pawn Shop in Edmonton in 2008. Pride Tiger were touring for their awesome debut album "The Lucky Ones". This band kicked ass, with a old school rock sound reminiscent of 70's rock. What really impressed me about this band was drummer and lead singer Matt Wood, the guy play the drummers like a motherfucker and always looked like he was having the time of his life. Unfortunately the band is no longer together. Opening bands for this show were local acts The Get Down and Raptors. I went to this show with my buddy A-Bomb.

Ticket Stub Of The Day Apr.20th (George Thorogood)

Today's ticket stub is from the fourth time I saw George Thorogood in concert. This show was in 1993 at the Convention Centre in Edmonton. I have always been a fan of seeing concerts at the Convention Centre, sounds not always the greatest, but the atmosphere makes up for that. A person can drink, dance and have a good time, it's like a big bar atmosphere. Again Thorogood put on a great show. Good times!!!

Happy 4/20

I thought this song was appropriate for April 20th (420) It is the Black Crowes covering the Bob Dylan song "Rainy Day Women #12 & 35" If you multiply 12X35, guess what it equals. Ya, ol' Bob was way ahead of the times.

Concert Shirt/Poster Of The Day Apr.19th (Great White & Alice Cooper)

Today's t-shirt is from the time I saw Great White open for Alice Cooper at Northlands Coliseum in Edmonton in 1990. This was my fourth time seeing Alice Cooper in concert. Alice was on his Trashes Canada tour promoting the album "Trash" which was a terrible album.

John Mellencamp Live In Edmonton Apr.17th 2011

Well, again I got to see John Mellencamp in concert, back to back this time. This was my fourth time seeing him in concert. And like the night before, this show was also sold out. I thought he put on a great show. It was pretty much the same show, a few changes in the set list a few different songs, but the same between song banter as Saturday night. My seats weren't near as good as the night before, this time I was sitting in the second balcony, but I can't complain, after all I got the tickets for free from my buddy Buzzard. Thanks Buzzard, much appreciated. I found the Sunday night show went quicker for some reason, John played for two hours just like the night before. Maybe it's cause I had a little buzz on for this show, after having beers with Hurl and Cuz whom also went to the show with us. Good times!!!

My Cuz took a couple of pictures for me at the show, as he had better seats then I did.
