Today's ticket stub is from the first time I saw the Tragically Hip in concert. This concert was in 1991 at The Convention Centre in Edmonton with opening band Flies On Fire. The Hip were touring for their album 'Road Apples' This was the only time I saw The Hip play a no minors show. The venue was set up as a cabaret, tables and chairs set up and full bar service, serving pitchers of beer (big mistake). The place was sold out, about 3,000 people, and with The Hip not hitting the stage til midnite, the place was buzzing with a lot of very intoxicated people.
By the time they hit the stage, there were people jumping on tables and collapsing them, chairs all over the place, and eventually the barricade between the crowd and the stage, being knocked down. Then there were the empty beer pitchers being thrown on to the stage, a very dangerous situation to say the least. The Hip stopped the show a few times trying to get the crowd to back up from the stage as people were getting crushed and asking people to stop throwing pitchers at the stage. This was the last show they ever served pitchers of beer at. The music its self was awesome and have been a big fan of the Tragically Hip since. I went to this show with Eor, A-Bomb, Wayne, Nerraw, Chris and Ross.
