Steel Panther Live In Vancouver 03.10.11
Well, on the weekend I made the voyage to Vancouver see a couple of concerts. The first of the two shows I saw was Los Angeles,California glam metal/comedy band Steel Panther. I was going to Vancouver to see another show, which I will have a review up for as well soon. My brother had called me and told me about the Steel Panther show of the evening I got in to Vancouver. He was good enough to get us a couple of tickets for the second of two sold out shows at The Commodore Ballroom (thanks Citrus). The venue holds about a thousand people. We had enough time to have dinner and get some beers in to me belly before the big show. We missed the opening band, but got there right in enough time, to checkout the crowd, which was decked out in 80's glam outfits, felt like Halloween night actually. I've never seen so many guys with bandannas on and slutty looking metal chicks, puffed up hair, spandex and such was the dress code for this show. Before the show started they were playing all kinds of old school metal (Van Halen, AC/DC, Crue you get the idea) well the dance floor was packed with everyone singing along and swilling beers at a heavy pace, wasn't hard to get in to this show before it even started. The fans were already having a blast before Steel Panther had even hit the stage.
Once the band hit the stage in all their glammed out glory, the party was on!!! I know I was having a good time, the beers were going down quick and tasting good.
Opening with the song "Eyes Of A Panther" from their debut album "Feel The Steel" actually almost every song was from this album. They did do one new song ("Critters" I think it was called). Lead singer Michael Starr(Ralph Saenz) looks like a washed up David Lee Roth and that's saying something, actually he probably looks and sings better then DLR come to think of it.
The band are actually really talented and fucking hilarious. There between song banter had the crowd howling and was as entertaining as the music. And bass player Lexxi Foss(Travis Haley) was busy hair spraying his hair between songs, not only that but during songs too, looking at himself in his hand held mirror making sure he looks good. The rest of the band gave him a hard time about being gay which he adamantly denied, funny shit.
Guitar player Satchel(Russ Parish) is actually a pretty damn good guitarist and is funny as hell. Making comments throughout the show to women in the crowd. One comment that made me laugh like hell was when he spotted a bigger lady in the crowd and said "your the best looking fat chick here tonite" before breaking in to the hilarious song "Fat Girl (Thar She Blows)"
And drummer Stix Zodinia(Darren Leader) holds down the beat quite well too.
As the evening wore on and the crowd got more drunk and the band got more rude, the band started pulling women up on stage with them to dance about and do shooters with the band. Lots of women flashing titties like the old 80's metal shows got a rise out of the crowd. They had screens on both sides of the stage so that everyone got a close up of the band, the tits and could sing along as they also put the words to the songs on the screen.
Steel Panther pretty much played the whole album "Feel the Steel" like fan favorites 'Death To All But Metal','Asian Hooker', the ballad 'Stripper Girl',Eatin Ain't Cheatin' and of course 'The Shocker'.
All and all this was a very fun night out with my brother with lots of drinks for myself, some good old classic hair metal, lots of laughs and good times!!! The band doesn't do a lot of touring, but if you ever get the chance to see this glam metal comedy act it is well worth the effort.
Another big thanks to my brother for taking most of these pictures that night as the wobbly pops were making me a tad, well, wobbly.
Front.
