 On October 29th, 1990 I saw this awesome triple bill of Judas Priest with openers Megadeth and Testament at Northlands Coliseum in Edmonton. Judas Priest were touring for their album Painkiller. And all these years later all three bands are still going strong.

 My ticket stub from the very first time I ever had front row seats for a concert. July 17th, 1986 Judas Priest at Northlands Coliseum in Edmonton on their Turbo Tour. Opening the show was Bon Jovi, whom did not go over so well with the Judas Priest crowd.

Last week I went to the Judas Priest and Uriah Heep double bill at Rogers Place in Edmonton. I wasn't sure if I was going to go to this show or not but after being able to score a ticket for twenty dollars through the Ticketmaster summer concert deal how could I say no. Especially a double bill like this. Between the two bands there is almost a hundred years of British rock n' roll to be celebrated. And not only that, the new Judas Priest album Firepower is a kick ass album.

Starting the night was Uriah Heep, this would be my second time seeing them in concert, having seen them play a club just last summer, and that was a great show. I was looking forward to seeing them play a big stage. When Uriah Heep hit the stage the place wasn't very full but it sure did fill up quick once they started cranking out the tunes. The band led by guitarist Mick Box the founding member of the band sounded great. Rounding out the band was Phil Lanzon on keys, Bernie Shaw on vocals, who does an amazing job, Russell Gilbrook on drums and Davey Rimmer on bass. For their hour long set they covered a lot of ground playing songs from their very first album ...Very 'Eavy ...Very 'Umble. Right up to their latest 2018 release Living The Dream. I thought they were awesome, and thoroughly enjoyed their set.

Next up was headliner Judas Priest. This would be my third time seeing Priest in concert. The last time being in 1990 on their Painkiller Tour. By this time the place and filled up, with a crowd of about 6,000. Opening the show with a song from Firepower called "Necromancer", and following that up with an oldie "Heading Out To The Highway", and holy shit we were off and running. Rob Halford's voice sounded amazing. As did the band which included original bass player Ian Hill and Richie Faulkner on guitar who has been with the band since 2011, Scott Travis on drums since 1989 and the newest member Andy Sneap on guitar. Next song up was "Sentinel" from the Defenders Of The Faith album. If you have a look at the setlist it was a set of mostly deeper cuts, as there were a lot of songs I would love to have heard, but it was cool to hear some of these songs that I really wasn't expecting. And the four new songs they did fit excellent with the old stuff.

For the encore the three songs they did were "Hell Bent For Leather", "Breaking The Law" and closing out the night with "Living After Midnight". Holy fucking shit, what a great encore. a fun night of old school heavy metal. Good times!!!

23 Years Ago Today...October 29th

It was twenty-three years ago today that I saw Judas Priest with openers Megadeth and Testament play Northlands Coliseum in Edmonton. An amazing night of heavy metal!!!

And it was five years ago today that I saw Bob Dylan play Rexall Place in Edmonton.

27 Years Ago Today...July 17th

It was twenty-seven years ago today that I saw Judas Priest with opening act Bon Jovi play Edmonton at Northlands Coliseum.

Also on this day, twenty-four years ago, I saw Jeff Healey perform at the Jubilee Auditorium here in Edmonton. Earlier in the day Jeff Healey also did an in-store performance at the old records store The Marquee downtown. Where I was lucky enough to meet the man and get his autograph.

As well it was eighteen years ago today that I saw Ace Frehley and Peter Criss of KISS do solo shows at the Thunderdome here in Edmonton.

Also on this day eleven years ago, I saw went to the Vans Warped Tour in Calgary. Some of the bands I saw on this day were Hot Water Music, Mighty Mighty Bosstones, NOFX, Bad Religion, Death By Stereo among many others.

And finally, on this day five years ago, I saw the Black Crowes play Edmonton at the Jubilee Auditorium.

Ticket Stub Of The Day Nov.10th (Judas Priest)

Today's ticket stub is from the excellent metal triple bill I saw in Edmonton at Northlands Coliseum in 1990 consisting of Judas Priest headlining with Megadeth and Testament opening. If your ears weren't ringing after this show you must have already been deaf. Judas Priest were touring for their Painkiller album. I don't recall who I went to this show with.

Concert Shirt Of The Day June 25th (Judas Priest)

Today's t-shirt is from the Judas Priest and Bon Jovi concert I attended in 1986 with Nerraw and Cuz. Bon Jovi opening for Priest, weird double bill, this was before Jovi were big, I think they only had their debut album out at the time. Priest were touring for their Turbo album. This was the first time I had ever had row one on the floor for a concert, and wow, did I ever pay for that. My ears rang for three days, it is still probably the loudest coliseum concerts I have ever been to. The concert was during Klondike Days (exhibition) and I recall walking around the grounds after the show not able to hear a damn thing.

I wanna give a shout out to Marina Y. a friend of mine from Junior High School days whom sent me this t-shirt. I have no idea where my shirt went, as I have lost a few over the years. She found me on facebook, and was looking at my blog and messaged me asking if I still had my Priest shirt, which I didn't. She was nice enough to send me hers. Thanks Marina :)
