June 22nd

  

 On June 22nd, 1991 I saw AC/DC on their Razors Edge Tour play Northlands Coliseum in Edmonton. If I remember correctly this was the second night of a two night stand. Opening the show was L.A. Guns.

February 24th

 

This show on February 24th, 1990 is still one of the top ten shows  have ever been to. L.A. Guns with local bands Killing Time and Mary Prankster at The Metro in Edmonton. Holy shit between the booze, weed, hash, mushrooms, acid and blow going around at this show it's a wonder any of us remember it. L.A. Guns were touring for their sophomore album Locked & Loaded which was a great follow up to their debut album. The afternoon of this show the band L.A. Guns did an autograph session at HMV in West Edmonton Mall in which myself a few buddies attended. Got my album autographed and met the guys. This was one hell of a day and night. Good times!!!

L.A. Guns Autographed Jacket

Well look what I found in my closet a while ago. My old jean jacket from the late 80's. It is my L.A. Guns jacket, I drew this logo as a teen on the back of my jacket using felt pens. I got it autographed back in 1990 when L.A. Guns did an autograph session at HMV in West Edmonton Mall before playing a headlining show at The Metro when they were touring for their Cocked & Loaded album. I loved this jacket and wore it with pride, just couldn't wear it if it was raining, as the ink would have run. I thought this was lost, so happy to have found it.

22 Years Ago Today...June 22nd

It was twenty-two years ago today that I saw AC/DC with openers L.A. Guns play Edmonton at Northlands Coliseum.

Also on this day, thirteen years ago, I saw Ween play in Vancouver at the Vogue Theatre.

As well on this day seventeen years ago today, I saw Bush with openers Veruca Salt play the Coliseum here in Edmonton.

Looks like June 22nd has been a good day for shows for me. It was also on this day a year ago I saw Tedeschi Trucks Band play Edmonton at the Jubilee Auditorium.

23 Years Ago Today...Feb.24th

It was twenty-three years ago today that I saw one of the craziest concert I have ever attended. L.A. Guns with local rockers Mary Prankster and Killing Time at the Metro here in Edmonton. Anyone that was at this show will tell you it was fuckin' nuts. Good times!!!







It was twelve years ago today that I also saw the Supersuckers play Edmonton at New City Likwid Lounge, again another amazing concert.





Also on this day nineteen years ago today I saw vancouver band Mushroom Trail play at the Bronx in Edmonton.

Ticket Stub Of The Day Feb.25th (AC/DC)

Today's ticket stub is from the double bill of AC/DC with L.A. Guns concert I saw in 1991 at Northlands Coliseum in Edmonton. This was my third time seeing AC/DC live, they were touring for their album 'Razors Edge' and my second time seeing L.A. Guns in concert. I was really looking forward to seeing LA Guns again, as the last time I had seen them at The Metro, they put on an incredible show. This time though they just lacked bite and weren't all that good. They were touring for their album 'Hollywood Vampires' which was terrible, so I should have known that they weren't going to be very good. This show actually played two nights in a row, with both shows being sold out.

I went to this show with Cuz and Sherry. Sherry snuck my video camera in for me so that I could bootleg L.A. Guns opening set. Cuz and I had done mushrooms before the show so we were tripping pretty good, it's damn hard to tape a concert when your tripping on shrooms'. Good times!!!



During AC/DC's set when they played the song 'Money Talks' AC/DC dollars bills fell from the rafters. I had a friend that had seats on the floor who was lucky enough to catch a few of the dollars and was nice enough to give me one.

Concert Shirt Of The Day Dec.27th (L.A. Guns)

Today's t-shirt is from one of the best concerts I have ever been too. This was L.A. Guns at The Metro in Edmonton back in 1990. L.A. Guns had just released their album Cocked & Loaded and were still playing bars. Local bands Killing Time and friends Mary Prankster opened. This was a sleazy debauched glam rock n' roll show, the place was packed and the drinks and drugs were a flowing. All kinds of people zooming out on shrooms', some blow making its way around the room and of course lots of drinks. At one point during the show, there was a lady butt naked not a stitch of clothing on crowd surfing, as you can imagine, there was some groping going on there. All and all, this concert was a party hard show with great music from all three bands and felt like I was actually in a sleazy Hollywood bar. I went to this show with Hurl, A-Bomb, Nerraw, Eor and few other friends I believe too. Before the evening concert L.A. Guns did an autograph session out at HMV in West Edmonton Mall.

Old School Album Of The Week For May 3rd-7th

This weeks album is the self titled debut album by Hollywood glam/sleaze rockers L.A. Guns that came out in 1988. I still pull this album out on a regular basis, as it is a fun rocking album. There really isn't a bad song on the whole thing.
This is probably their best album (their second album was quite good too) with the classic line up of Phil Lewis on vocals,Tracii Guns on lead guitar,Mick Cripps on rhythm guitar,Kelly Nickels on bass and Steve Riley on drums.
The album is balls out rock right from the get go starting with the opening song "No Mercy". I recall years ago working at my old job picture framing where a lady that we worked with heard this song and thought the chorus was "show your pussy" fuck did we laugh.



With titles like Sex Action,One More Reason,Bitch Is Back,Electric Gypsy,Hollywood Teaze it wasn't hard to tell what these guys were all about,sex, drugs and rock n' roll, oh the good ol' days of sleazy glam metal.

The band really never got the attention they deserved as they played second fiddle to Guns N' Roses for most of their career. And now L.A. Guns play as two separate bands lead by Phil Lewis in one of the bands and Tracii Guns in the other. C'mon guys, let go of the ego's and just get back together as the original L.A. Guns, especially now with GnR such a joke, you could really make a go of it again.

All and all this is a very good album and well worth pulling out and having another listen.
