 It was June 29th, 2006 that I saw Wilco with opener Elliott Brood at the Jubilee Auditorium in Edmonton.

Wilco Live in Edmonton August 30th 2025

  My buddies A-Bomb, Buzzard and I went to see An Evening with Wilco at the Jubilee Auditorium in Edmonton a few weeks ago, which was their last show of the year. This would be my 7th time seeing Wilco in concert and first time in fifteen years. Hard to believe it had been that long since they last played here.

 What an awesome show this was too. First thing my buddy A-Bomb and I noticed was that Wilco still has the same six band members as the last time we saw them. It's no wonder they sound so good, a tight band that can play any kind of music, and Wilco does play a wide range of styles of music, from rock n' roll, folk, to noisey jazz like music. Lead singer Jeff Tweedy hasn't changed a bit since last seeing them and Nels Cline is unbelievable on guitar.

 Wilco played two sets which equaled about a two and a half hour long show. And the setlist covered a wide range of songs from a wide range of albums. A great selection from two of my favourite Wilco albums A Ghost Is Born, "Handshake Drugs", "Spiders (Kidsmoke)", "The Late Greats" and Sky Blue Sky, "Impossible Germany", "Walken", "Hate It Here" and those are just the ones I still remember from weeks ago. Other songs played that I recall were "Box Full Of Letters" and "It's Just That Simple" from their first album A.M., a couple from Being There "Sunken Treasure" and "Forget the Flowers". What really surprised me at this show was two songs from the Mermaid Avenue album that Wilco and Billy Bragg did back in 1998. One of the songs played was "California Stars" and I don't remember the other, but I know they played two from the album, for those that don't know that album was made up of songs that all lyrics were written by Woody Guthrie that Wilco and Billy Bragg put music to.

 I would love to have heard more songs from their awesome album Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, they did do a few from that album "Heavy Metal Drummer", "I'm The Man Who Loves You" and one other. There were a portion of songs that I wasn't all that familiar with from some of their newer albums. The songs sounded great live but I don't know them well enough to recall the titles of the songs. All and all this was a great show. I just hope it isn't another 15 year wait for them to come back through town. Good times!

June 29th

 It was June 29th, 2003 that I was in Montreal visiting my brother for a week, while there we got out to a few shows. One of them being Wilco with Neko Case opening the show at the Metropolis. Great double bill.

February 15th

  It was on February 15th, 2010 that I saw Wilco perform at the Jubilee Auditorium in Edmonton.

August 28th

 

  Back on August 28th, 2002 I saw the band Wilco on their Yankee Hotel Foxtrot Tour play a sold out show at Red's in Edmonton.

August 18th

  

 On August 18th, 2007 I saw the band Wilco on their Sky Blue Sky Tour play the Jubilee Auditorium in Edmonton. And what a great fucking show it was!

July 19th

 

  On July 19th, 1997 my self and some buddies made the trip to the Camrose Exhibition Grounds for the Another Roadside Attraction Tour which was put on and headlined by The Tragically Hip. What a day of music this was, with such bands as Wilco, Sheryl Crow, Change Of Heart, Los Lobos, Ashley MacIsaac among others. Good fucking times!!!

Concert Shirt/Poster Of The Day Dec.23rd (Wilco)

Today's poster is from the fifth time I saw Wilco in concert. This show was at The Jubilee Auditorium in Edmonton in 2006 with Elliot Brood opening. Wilco was touring for their live album 'Kicking Television'. I went to this show with A-Bomb, who came from B.C. for the show. I had got a good buzz on before the show, during the concert lead singer Jeff Tweedy pointed me out of the crowd and mentioned how stoned I looked and proceeded to go on about how I looked like someone that had concerts going through his head 24/7, I would say he has a damn good judgement of character. I like to tell this story and then back it up with the bootleg recording I found on the net of this show, and say, hey that's me he is talking to. Again, this was another great performance by Wilco.

Unfortunately I missed openers Elliot Brood, whom I didn't know at the time. I kick my ass now, cause they are an awesome band.

Wilco - Schmilco

Well I have been meaning to write about this album for a while now. I am speaking of the Wilco album Schmilco that was released on September 9th, their tenth studio album. The album title is a nod to Harry Nilsson who released an album called Nilsson Schmilsson that came out in 1971.

A couple of days before the release, select independent record stores across North America had listening parties "I Heard Schmilco" for the new album. At these listening parties they not only played the new album but you could also pick up the album before the release date, they also had give-aways. One of the prizes was a test pressing of the Schmilco album. I went to the local record shop here in Edmonton Blackbyrd Myoozik to hear it and enter the contest.

I had pre ordered the album, and wanted the indie release which was a coloured vinyl release but had to settle for the black vinyl as they did not yet have the indie copies in yet, no big deal, as I really wanted the album. Well, the day after the listening party, I got a call from Blackbyrd with news that I had won a copy of the test pressing, totally cool!

Two days after that, I got another call telling me that the indie release was now in, as I had ordered it, I thought it was only right to pick that up as well. So that is how I now own three copies of the Wilco Schmilco album. All I need now is the pink coloured vinyl release. I may just have to pick that up one day too.

Anyways, it took me a few listens to the album to really like it, but am now a big fan of this album too. Wilco has always put out great albums and this one ranks up there too. The album only runs just over a half hour long. Give it a listen and go to your local record shop and pick up a copy.

Now I am just keeping my fingers crossed that Wilco actually makes there way up to Edmonton on this tour as they haven't played here since 2010.
