It was eighteen years ago today that I saw the ska band The Pietasters play Edmonton at the old Sidetrack Cafe.

19 Years Ago Today...April 5th

It was nineteen years ago today that I saw Canadian rockers Junkhouse play at Peoples Pub here in Edmonton.





It was also eight years ago today that I saw the heavy double bill of Strapping Young Lad with openers Misery Signals play at the Starlite Room here in Edmonton.

21 Years Ago Today...April 4th

It was twenty-one years ago today that I saw The Four Horsemen in concert at the Dinwoodie Lounge here in Edmonton.

Lucero Live In Edmonton April 1st 2013

On Monday night I finally got to see a band that my brother got me in to years ago and have been following for almost ten years. The band is Lucero from Memphis, Tennessee and this was their first time playing in Edmonton. The show was at the Starlite Room here which was a great venue for this show. I went to the show with my buddies A-Bomb,Buzzard and Cuz, all friends that I introduced Lucero's music too. Opening the show was a two piece band called Shovels & Rope from South Carolina.

We got to the venue just in time to catch Shovels and Rope hit the stage for their forty-five minute set. The two musicians Cary Ann Hearst and Michael Trent ripped it up during their too short of set. The two of them switched instruments through out the show. Cary started the show on drums (which was a very simple set of drums that looked like they had been pulled out of the gutter) and Trent on acoustic guitar, a few songs later they switched it up, and holy shit the lady can belt it out. They played what they described as "dirty southern rock" and I would have to agree with them. I had never heard of them before this show was announced, but I will be picking up some of there music for sure.

Next up was Lucero who hit the stage around 10:30 and played there brand of soulful gritty rock n' roll to not quite a sold out crowd for two hours. Lucero is on tour now to promote there awesome release from last year called Women & Work on ATO Records. I was so pumped about finally getting to this motley looking bunch and they didn't disappoint at all. What a fucking awesome show from Ben Nichols and the boys. The four piece tatooed band rocked it out with a two guy horn section which added a cool element to the music. And Ben Nichols vocals are a wicked whiskey soaked soulfulness to him matched by no other. The man sings with grit and true feeling that go right to the bone. No phoniness in the band at all. Ben also did a little solo acoustic set that was awesome as well including the song "When I Was Young" with Rick Steff who plays keyboards switching to the accordian for this number. Lucero opened the set with the title song from their 2003 album "That Much Further West" and then even doing a Jawbreaker cover "Kiss The Bottle". And of course as usual there is always one meat head in the audience being a jack ass and yelling out requests, and more then once he would yell for a song that had already been played, uh duh, dumb ass. There wasn't a weak song or slow point during the show. There is no doubt this show will be making my top ten list at the end of the year. Good times!!!

8 Years Ago Today...April 2nd

It was eight years ago today that I saw Motley Crue play Rexall Place in Edmonton.





It was also three years ago today that I saw Wild T and The Spirit play at the Commercial Hotel here in Edmonton.



In concert news...Motley Crue will be playing Edmonton again on Sunday April 28th at Rexall Place with opening band Big Wreck.

As well Wild T and The Spirit will be playing at the Commercial Hotel here in Edmonton again this summer the weekend of July 18th,19th and 20th.

26 Years Ago Today...Apr.1st

It was twenty-six years ago today that I saw Alice Cooper in cooncert at Northlands Coliseum in Edmonton. My friends and I did the Alice Cooper back to back, having seen Alice Cooper in Calgary the day before. In Calgary we sat in the nose bleeds and for Edmonton we had front row seats.





As well it was twenty-four years ago that some buddies and I traveled to Calgary to see comedian Bill Cosby perform at the Saddledome on April Fools Day.





In concert news...According to Bill Cosby's website, it looks like he will be performing Wednesday May 8th in Fort McMurray, Alberta which is four hours north of Edmonton.
