Jon Spencer Live in Edmonton March 1st 2025

My buddy A-Bomb and I went to the Jon Spencer show last Saturday at the Rec Room in Edmonton. And what a time we had, it had been 20 years since we last Jon Spencer in concert, and that show was at the Sidetrack Cafe with Jon's band Heavy Trash with The Sadies as his back up band, that too was a great show, but this show last weekend blew that one away.

Opening the show was a three piece instrumental band from Calgary called The Ramblin' Ambassadors. They play a rockabilly/surf style of music, their 30 minute opening set was good. But that wasn't the reason I was there.

The Ramblin' Ambassadors.

Now it was time for Jon Spencer and his three piece band rounded out by the awesome rhythm section of Spider Bowman on drums and bassist Kendall Wind. The small but appreciative crowd were ready for some rock n' roll, and holy fuck did we get it. Jon Spencer hit the stage looking sharp and ready to howl and play the guitar like a mad man.

I first got into Jon Spencer back in 1994 with the release of his album called Orange with is then band Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, I fucking loved that album. So I was really hoping to hear some tunes from said album, and I did, which made me a very happy man. Jon and his band came out firing on all cylinders, playing his punked up blues at full throttle. His hour plus long set rocked balls to the wall through out. Playing songs from his whole career minus Heavy Trash songs. It was cool to hear Jon play some of his real early Pussy Galore music.  And ya I got to hear some JSBX songs from his album Orange, songs such as "Bellbottoms" which was great to hear and sing along to. I know there were others but with no break between songs and being as loud and rocking as they were, I don't recall the other titles, I believe he also played "Blues X Man" and "Sweat".

Overall this was one of the best club shows I have seen in quite sometime. Good times!!!

After the show my buddy A-Bomb hung-out for a bit to see if Jon would come out and sign autographs, and lo and behold he did. I picked up his latest album Sick Of Being Sick and got that autographed by him.
