Lou Barlow Live in Edmonton June 13th 2026

Well fuck, it's already been two weeks since the Lou Barlow show that my buddy Nazz and I went to. I totally forgot I hadn't wrote about the show yet. So here it is, short and sweet.

Now for those that don't know who Lou Barlow is, he was a founding member (bassist) of Dinosaur Jr., also a member of Folk Implosion and Sebadoh and of course his own solo albums. To Lou play a solo acoustic show in a venue like The Buck, this was a must see show. While I don't know the Dinosaur Jr. music like I should, I was and still am a big fan of Sebadoh, especially the 1994 album Bakesale.

Opening the show was a local artist by the name of Cassia Hardy. We didn't catch much of her set, what we did catch of it. I didn't much care for it.

Cassia Hardy.

By the time Lou Barlow came on the place was packed, pretty close to a sell out if not sold out. Like I say this show was two weeks ago, so things are a bit fuzzy. I do recall that he opened the show with a Sebadoh song, that being "Magnet's Coil" from the Bakesale album, fucking awesome, i was hoping to hear lots from that album and I did. Other songs from that album played were "Skull", "License To Confuse", "Rebound" and "Not A Friend" there may have been more but those are the ones I know for sure. he mixed the set up well with some Dinosaur Jr. songs and a couple of Folk Implosion songs.

I had been listening to his 2005 solo album Emoh in the weeks before the show, on that album he does a cover of the Ratt song "Round And Round" which really surprised me. Well at one point during his performance he was taking requests and I shouted out "Round And Round" and much to my delight he started playing it, but he didn't get far into it when he said "what the hell am I doing", I don't think he could remember how it went. But at least I got to hear about fifteen seconds of it. I was happy with that. Right after that try he did do another cover song, that being the Bryan Adams song "Run To You" which had the crowd singing along and laughing. A solid two hour set by Lou.This was a very fun show to be at. Good times!!!

Lou Barlow.
