Apathy For The Devil Book Review

I recently finished reading the book 'Apathy For The Devil, A 1970's Memoir' wrote by Nick Kent published in 2010.

Nick Kent was a writer/journalist for the British magazine NME (New Musical Express) in the 70's. And this his memoir from that time, or at least what he recalls from it.

He tells his stories of hanging with the Rolling Stones,Led Zeppelin and many others, until he became a substance abuser (coke and heroin) being his down fall.

Nick writes about each year in chronological order, of course starting in 1970 up to 1979. Half way through the 70's he was a full blown addict and living on the streets or couch surfing.

At one time he was invited to play in the Sex Pistols which didn't last long as he was kicked out of the band, he also dated Chrissy Hynde before she got famous with her band The Pretenders. I wasn't all that impressed with Nick's writing and found he always wanted to be the centre of attention, but I guess if it is your memoir, you should be. But he just comes across as very arrogant and annoying. All and all, I didn't much care for this book.

Roger Waters Live In Edmonton May 28th 2012

Last night my Sweetie Janis and my buddy Buzzard and I went to the Roger Waters concert here in Edmonton at Rexall Place to see Roger perform the Pink Floyd 1979 classic concept album The Wall, in it's entirety, the first of two sold out shows here. This was my second time seeing this show and third time seeing Roger Waters in concert, as the first time was in Vancouver in December of 2010 doing The Wall. Which was an incredible show, hence why I had to see it a second time. I was interested in seeing if there would be a difference in the two shows. And there was. For starters, in Vancouver I had 14th row on the floor for the show as here I was sitting in the blues, which is the second balcony of the coliseum. This added a whole new perspective to the show. I found the visuals to be absolutelly incredible and different from the previous show I had seen. Cool, to see that they have changed up that part of the show, the visuals were way more 3D'ish then what I saw in Vancouver. The sound was incredible as well, with the quadrophonic sound system used,wow, unbelievable is the only word to describe the sound and music. Again Roger Waters out did himself, this show is worth every cent you may pay to see this performance. I was so tempted to go again this evening and see if it was yet again different. Unfortunatelly because of working later then I had envisioned I wasn't able to pull this off. An amazing show and one that you must see if you are any kind of fan of psychedelic music or music period.

After the show, I have to say, I had the biggest craving for munchies I have had in a very long time!!!

KISS Tour Program 1985

Today's tour program is from the first time I saw KISS in concert. This show was in 1985 at the Kinsmen Field House in Edmonton. KISS were on tour for their 'Animalize' album.

This program is 26 pages in length and full of glossy pictures of the band members in all there glam glory. Actually kind of a lame ass program.

Metallica Tour Program 1989

Today's tour program is from the Metallica shows I saw in 1989 in Edmonton and Calgary, don't recall at which show I bought the program at. Metallica were touring for their '...And Justice For All album', the tour was called 'Damaged Justice'.

The program is 26 pages in length and full of colour pictures and a 3 page article wrote by Mick Wall.

In concert news...Metallica will be playing in Edmonton on Friday August 17th at Rexall Place, one of only two Canadian shows this summer.

Rush Memorabilia

Ok, it's a lame piece of memorabilia, but oh well, gonna show it off anyways.

It's a Rush lighter that Bic put out. The logo on the lighter is from their debut 1974 album. There are a few different lighters with other Rush logos on them available.

In concert news...The lighter may come in handy when Rush plays Edmonton on Sunday September 30th at Rexall Place on their 'Clockwork Angels Tour'. The concert is billed as an evening with Rush.

The new Rush album 'Clockwork Angels' comes out on Tuesday June 12th. You can hear the first single 'Headlong Flight' from the new album by clicking here. The song kicks ass. I am so looking forward to seeing Rush again.

Pink Floyd Tour Program 1987

Today's tour program is from the first time I saw Pink Floyd in concert, a concert I still consider one of the best I have ever seen.

The show was in 1987 in Vancouver at BC Place Stadium in Vancouver. Pink Floyd were touring for their 'A Momentary Lapse Of Reason' album, which was without original bass player Roger Waters.

The program is 26 pages in length. I find the program to be a huge letdown, as there are only 3 pictures of the stage. With the stage set up they had for this tour, I am thinking you could have put a lot more pictures of it. Overall the program is disappointing.
