Concert Shirt Of The Day Dec.31st (Big Sugar)

Today's concert shirt is from the New Years Eve show Big Sugar did in 1999 to bring in the new millennium, this show was at The Shaw Conference Centre in Edmonton. Another great epic 3 hour show by Gordie Johnson and the boys. What I really recall about this show was trying to get a cab after the concert in -30 below weather, what a fucking pain in the ass that was.

KISS Collectible Of The Day Dec.30th

Today's KISS Collectible is the double VHS video tape called The Second Coming that came out in 1998 on Mercury Records. The two tapes are a documentary of the Alive Worldwide Tour of 1996-97. It's two hours both tapes combined of behind the scenes footage and live shots of the tour, with even a small bit recorded in Edmonton. The tapes also came with a 36 page colour booklet of a history of KISS.

I haven't watched this in years and actually forgot I even had it, i am thinking it's time to set up the old VHS machine and check it out again. After looking at the credits on the back of two, I see that the documentary is written, produced and directed by Tommy Thayer. Tommy now plays the part of Ace Frehley in the latest edition of KISS.

Ticket Stub Of The Day Dec.30th (Randy Bachman)

Today's ticket stub is from the Randy Bachman concert I saw in 1995 at The Thunderdome in Edmonton. Randy was the guitar player in The Guess Who back in the day. If you look at the ad for this show, you will see that Burton Cummings whom also played in The Guess Who also played the Dome 3 weeks later. This was at the time when neither one of them could get along, and now they are playing together again. I guess the solo gigs just didn't pay.

KISS Collectible Of The Day Dec.29th

Today's KISS Collectible is another ridiculous KISS item that I got when it first came out in 1997 and distributed by Gartlan USA Inc. A KISS baseball if you can believe it, like KISS knows anything about baseball, let alone put there name on one. Actually, I believe Ace and Peter were baseball fans. Having said that though, I had to have it.

Bob Dylan Book Review

I finally got around to reading a book I have had on my shelf for over a year now. The book is Bob Dylan's Chronicles Volume One his memoir wrote by Bob himself of course, that came out in 2004 and published by Simon & Schuster. Supposedly this is book one of three that he is writing. I found this book to be very informative, it covers his early years in Minneapolis and New York. The book only has five chapters, chapter one is about the early years and another chapter is about him recording his album 'Oh Mercy'(1989) with producer Daniel Lanois. That album sounded like it was a real challenge to make with Lanois, one other chapter is about his album 'New Morning'(1970). It took me a while to get into the book, but about a third of the way through I found myself quite engaged in his writing and story telling. I am looking forward to more volumes of his memoirs. Good read!!!

Concert Shirt Of The Day Dec.29th (AC/DC)

Today's t-shirt is from the first time I saw AC/DC in concert. This concert was in 1986 at Northlands Coliseum in Edmonton with Queensryche opening. AC/DC were touring for their Who Made Who album which was just a soundtrack for the Stephen King movie Maximum Overdrive, so it was more like they were touring for their Fly On The Wall album, which is probably the last good album they put out. This was a very rowdy crowd, first time AC/DC had played here in years and on a Saturday night. I saw people drinking straight whiskey right out of the bottle, 60 oz bottle at that, I even recall seeing a ladies hair catch on fire on the floor when some dumb ass threw a sparkler, them were the days of women wearing lots of hair spray, didn't take long for her hair to go up. The Coliseum was sold out and the band put on a wicked show. Good times!!!

Lyrics Of The Day Dec.28th (Megadeth)

"I sneak in my own house,
It's four in the morning,
I had too much to drink,
Said I was out with the boys,
I creep in my bedroom,
I slip into bed,
I know if I wake her,
I'll wake up dead
"

Lyrics by Dave Mustaine of Megadeth from the song "Wake Up Dead" on the album Peace Sells...But Who's Buying? (1986)

KISS Collectible Of The Day Dec.28th

Today's KISS Collectible is a KISS Army key chain that I got for Xmas. This came out in 2007.

Ticket Stub Of The Day Dec.28th (Genesis)

Today's ticket stub is from the Genesis concert I saw in 1992 at Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton. I had no intention of going to this concert, but as I was waiting for a bus downtown the afternoon before the show, I was asked if I was interested in helping set up the floor for the big concert. I agreed to the offer and went to the stadium the following day to help. Well, never again, that was back breaking work, decent pay, but back breaking hauling thousands of sheets of plywood to cover a football field. I was to help do tear down after the concert but bailed, the hell with that, that was hard work, especially when your back is fucked.

The show itself was actually quite good. I'm not a Genesis fan, but have to admit I thought they sounded good and put on a great show.

KISS Collectible Of The Day Dec.27th

Today's KISS Collectible is a KISS Live shot poster from 1977, the poster is 33X21" in size and distributed by Campus Craft.

Concert Shirt Of The Day Dec.27th (L.A. Guns)

Today's t-shirt is from one of the best concerts I have ever been too. This was L.A. Guns at The Metro in Edmonton back in 1990. L.A. Guns had just released their album Cocked & Loaded and were still playing bars. Local bands Killing Time and friends Mary Prankster opened. This was a sleazy debauched glam rock n' roll show, the place was packed and the drinks and drugs were a flowing. All kinds of people zooming out on shrooms', some blow making its way around the room and of course lots of drinks. At one point during the show, there was a lady butt naked not a stitch of clothing on crowd surfing, as you can imagine, there was some groping going on there. All and all, this concert was a party hard show with great music from all three bands and felt like I was actually in a sleazy Hollywood bar. I went to this show with Hurl, A-Bomb, Nerraw, Eor and few other friends I believe too. Before the evening concert L.A. Guns did an autograph session out at HMV in West Edmonton Mall.

KISS Collectible Of The Day Dec.26th

Well another Xmas has come and gone and again, I got more KISS Collectibles for Xmas. Today's KISS Collectible is a KISS coffee mug that my sweetie Janis got me. A very colourful mug it is and a cool box that it came in as well. According to the box, this came out in 2008.

Coffee Mug.

Concert Poster Of The Day Dec.26th (Tragically Hip)

Today's concert poster is actually from an Edmonton show on the same tour that I saw the Tragically Hip with Sam Roberts opening. My buddy A-Bomb and I travelled to Vernon, B.C. for this show. I wasn't able to find a poster for the Vernon show, so I am having to use the Edmonton poster. Can someone find me a Vernon poster.

A-Bomb and I went to the Vernon show as we have a friend (Scotty) who lives there and went to see the show and spend the weekend with him and his girlfriend. The Hip played the Vernon Multiplex which is a miniature coliseum. It was nice to see The Hip play a smaller venue, cause up tot his point, I had always seen The Hip play big hockey arenas and outdoor festivals. This was also the first time I had seen Sam Roberts play live. Sam was a great choice to open the show, he rocked the place and have been a fan of him since. After the show, we went back to Scotty's and got up to no good the rest of the night and morning. Good times!!!

Concert Shirt Of The Day Dec.25th (Real McKenzies)

Today's t-shirt is from the time I saw Vancouver band The Real McKenzies play at Stars in Edmonton in 2001. The Real McKenzies are a Scottish band led by lead singer Paul McKenzie who really knows how to put on a show, the band seemed like hard drinkers and went through some pile of beers during their set. This was a wicked show and would love to see them play again soon. Good times!!!

Today's poster is from the second time I saw Henry Rollins do his spoken word performance. This show was at The Winspear Centre in Edmonton in 2004. I went to this show with my friend A-Bomb. Again he did a 3 hour show, you would never know you were sitting for 3 hours listening to a guy talk, a great show and very entertaining. Highly recommended.

KISS Collectible Of The Day Dec.22nd

Today's KISS Collectible is the last of the four solo albums put out in 1978 on Casablanca Records. This one is the Paul Stanley solo album, which I think is the weakest of the four. All nine songs on the album were wrote by Paul with help from others.

Ticket Stub Of The Day Dec.22nd (Joan Jett)

Today's ticket stub is from the third time I saw Joan Jett and The Blackhearts in concert. This show was in Edmonton at the Thunderdome in 1997. I went to this concert with my buddy Geddy whom got free tickets for the show. Joan always puts on a rockin' show and this was another great show by her.

Lyrics Of The Day Dec.21st (Marah)

"It's 3 in the morning when the bottle comes down...
and ooohhhh the razor goes around
but your time is your time and
nothing will change, nothing will change
gimme a dollar and I'll say it again...
here comes nothin'
now it's goin' once,goin' twice...
the demon is doin' his bidding, who am I kidding?
to be in this all night dream...
I wind up strumming on my old guitar
the only tune I ever know
so far
"

Lyrics by David Bielanko of Marah from the song "Can't Take It With You" on the album 'Angels Of Destruction' (2008)

KISS Collectible Of The Day Dec.21st

Today's KISS Collectible is the Gene Simmons Solo album that came out in 1978 on Casablanca Records. On Gene's album he had a bunch of special guests Bob Seger, Joe Perry of Aerosmith,Donna Summer,Rick Neilson of Cheap Trick and Cher plus others. Gene wrote every song on his album except the lame 'When You Wish Upon A Star". I haven't listened to this in ages, but what I remember, I wasn't all that impressed.
