It's that time of year again "Record Store Day" this year it falls on Saturday April 17th. Get out there and don't be a cheap/lazy ass and spend some money at your local independent record store. record stores are a dying breed and should be supported by all music fans. Get out and visit these stores in your local area. talk to the people running the stores, most of them are awesome people and are always good for recommending new and old music and helping you out in anyway that they can (ordering stuff in for you and such).
I know myself here in Edmonton will be getting out and visiting some, if not all the local record shops. Checkout these places if possible Blackbyrd Myoozik on Whyte Ave., Sound Connection also on Whyte Ave. (this record store has been around forever),Megatunes another record store on Whyte Ave. and last but not least, another shop just off of Whyte Ave. Octopus Ink whom also run a record label called Unrest Records. There are also a couple of good record shops downtown Free Cloud Records on 101st Street that's a record shop I haven't been to in ages, I think I will go have a look this Saturday. Another decent record store downtown on 124th street called Listen Records. I will be making my rounds this Saturday, and you should too, support your local record stores, damn it!!!!
Being Record Store Day, there are a lot of limited edition releases being put out by many bands, now, how many of these releases will actually make it up to Canada, who knows, but you won't know if you don't go check it out. If you click on the Record Store Day link here there is a list of bands that are putting out special releases just for this event. Also, depending where you are, some shops have local bands playing at their stores, like Scratch Records in Vancouver have bands playing all day I believe. I think Listen records may have a band playing in there store on Saturday as well. Also most of the shops will have specials on.
Anyways, support your local independent record shop.
